The GAJA family settled in Piedmont in the mid-seventeenth century.

Four generations have succeeded in producing wine since Giovanni Gaja in 1859, founded the winery in Barbaresco in the Langhe. Angelo, son of John, is the second generation. He married Clotilde Rey, who is credited traditionally credited with having imposed in the current company's production philosophy, oriented towards high-quality wine. The exponent of the third generation Giovanni Gaja was the son of Clotilde and Angelo Gaja, who died in 2002. Angelo Gaja, the current owner, joined the company in 1961 and made his own choices that were already his father and grandfather. He worked to spread the knowledge of state and Barbaresco in foreign markets. The Sorì Tildìn vineyard is situated in the municipality of Barbaresco, on top of a hill where, a little below, there is Costa Russi. The land, facing south, consists of clayey-calcareous marls and covers a surface of di 3.38 hectares, with average altitude of 260 m above the sea level. The vines are 45 years old on average. Fermentation and maceration for around three weeks followed by ageing in oak for 24 months. In Sorì Tildìn elegance and complexity find their greatest balance. The refined and unique character of Nebbiolo perfectly match with the pedoclimatic conditions, thus expressing a nose full of complex and mineral notes. It is a multidimensional wine, rich in the mouth with a dense structure. High ageing potential. 2016 is among the best vintages we have ever experienced in Piedmont. The Winter, Spring, growing season and Fall were ideal for our soils and brought excellent balance to the grapes at harvest.

The 2016 Barbaresco reminds us of the great 2004, but with more elegance and finesse. The powerful structure is quite like the 2001, yet with further refinement of the tannins.
