The roots of the Vogüé family in Chambolle reach back to 1450, and to a long line of aristocrats who have since served as faithful stewards of some of the  finest vineyards in the world

      -

This historical domaine has been in the hands of thesame family for over 500 years. The modern history of the Domaine commenced just after the Second War with the revival of the French economy and the vineyards in Burgundy. Presiding over the Domaine during this period was the larger-than-life Comte Georges personally led the renaissance with charm, passion and resolute skill. His daughter Elisabeth de Ladoucette ran things during the late 1980s until 2002, and during this spell the current ‘dream team’ was put together: she hired Francois Millet as winemaker, Gérard Gaudeau as chef de vignes and Jean-Luc Pépin was given the important job of sales and marketing in 1988. Today the pipette has passed to the Count’s granddaughters, Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, who have ably directed the affairs of the Domaine. Chambolle Musigny is a charming village in the Côte de Nuits, north of Clos Vougeot. The Côte de Nuits is known for producing some of the most iconic and age-worthy Pinot Noir wines in the world, and right at the top of the list is the Grand Cru vineyard Bonnes-Mares. Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé, from its base in Chambolle-Musigny,  is currently  comprised of 12.52 hectares of some of the finest vineyards in the Côte d’Or, including 2.7 hectares of the Grand Cru Bonnes Mares. The parcel of Bonnes Mares owned by the Domaine is situated close to the village itself. At 2.7 hectares, it is the largest single parcel of the climat and amounts to almost 20% of the entirety. The vines were planted in 1970 and yield only about 400 cases a year.  The wines are known for their aromatic purity and elegance

      -

The Grands Crus are Musigny and Bonnes Mares. The common characteristics are big tannins and balance. The flavors are textbook Burgundy red, showing a lively, fresh earthen character upfront, followed by complex red berry fruit. Burgundy expert, Clive Coates has said the wines from Bonnes-Mares are all about, “volume, velvet and vigour.” The philosophy at de Vogüé is the sound one of trying to blend tradition and modernity. Nothing is done systematically in either the vineyard or the cellar – there is a constant adaptation to both vineyard and vintage conditions

      -

The 2018 Bonnes-Mares from Domaine de Comte de Vogüé delivers a fine aromatic constellation of black plums, black cherries, blueberries, dark soil tones, venison, woodsmoke and vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with lovely sappiness and mineral undertow, fine-grained tannins and a long, youthful and vibrant finish. 2018 is a solar vintage "John Gilman".
